A vacuum pump oil filter is used to remove unwanted particles, such as debris and dust, from the oil that lubricates the compression chamber of a vacuum pump. This ensures that the oil remains clean and retains excellent lubrication and sealing properties.

The filter is made of cellulose for standard and ATEX applications, while for applications with extended oxygen content, it is made of glass fiber.

Why Busch Genuine oil filters?

SIGN OF QUALITY

manwithsparepartspackaging_smaller
Use Busch genuine oil filters to make your oil last longer and decrease maintenance while increasing the performance and longevity of your vacuum pump. Without an oil filter, the oil that lubricates your vacuum pump would be contaminated with particles from the pumped medium. Thus, the oil becomes saturated, which severely affects the pump’s efficiency and durability.

TECHNICAL BENEFITS OF BUSCH GENUINE OIL FILTERS

installation_service_stage
Busch genuine oil filters ensure that the compression chamber is provided with clean oil for optimal lubrication. This prevents friction of the vanes inside the vacuum chamber, as well as any increase in temperature inside the cylinder.

High temperatures cause oxidization of the oil, which has a negative impact on the filtration and lubrication process. This can have a severe impact on the performance and life span of your vacuum pump.

Three things to look out for when purchasing a vacuum pump oil filter

Use Busch Genuine Parts

Only Busch Genuine Parts guarantee that your equipment will continue to function optimally and ensure that you maintain your product warranty.

Choose the highest quality

Low-quality oil filters will allow more particles, such as dust and debris, to contaminate the oil that lubricates your vacuum pump. Thus, the oil becomes saturated and needs to be replaced more often, causing an increase in maintenance costs.

Select the right size

Make sure that the oil filter is the right size for your vacuum pump. Oil filters are used by all R5 0025 to R5 1600 models. To find out which inlet filter fits your needs best, use our parts finder or get in touch with our Busch experts.

FAQ

What is the role of a vacuum pump oil filter?

A vacuum pump oil filter is used to remove unwanted particles, such as debris and dust, from the oil that lubricates the compression chamber of a vacuum pump. This ensures that the oil remains clean and retains excellent lubrication and sealing properties.

Oil filtration is essential to ensure the longevity and performance of your vacuum pump, as well as the quality of your production process.

How does oil filtration work?

R5 RD technical drawing

1. Separating stage
2. Oil filter position
3. Outlet of the oil filter

The pumped medium containing oil particles enters the oil mist separator. Due to gravity, the oil drops to the bottom of the oil separating chamber while the pumped medium continues towards the outlet. The oil is pumped into the oil filter through the suction of the compression process. Once filtered, it is sent back into the compression chamber again through an oil return line and an oil supply line which are connected to the oil inlets.

How do Busch genuine oil filters work?

Busch genuine oil filters are used in our R5 vacuum pumps. They remove unwanted particles, such as dust and debris, from the oil that lubricates the compression chamber. Standard and ATEX filters are made of cellulose, while those for applications with extended oxygen content are made of glass fiber. They are located outside of the vacuum pump and are connected to the oil mist separator. The oil is pumped into the oil filter through the suction of the compression process. Once filtered, it is sent back into the compression chamber again through an oil return line and an oil supply line which are connected to the oil inlets.

What types of industrial vacuum pump filters are available?

There are three types of industrial vacuum pump filters:

  • Inlet filters are installed at the inlet of a vacuum pump or compressor. Their purpose is to prevent particles, such as dust and debris, from entering the pump and contaminating it.
  • Oil filters are used in oil-lubricated rotary vane vacuum pumps. They are located outside of the pump and are connected to the oil mist separator. By removing contaminants from the oil that lubricates the compression chamber, they ensure that it can be reused, remains clean, and retains excellent lubrication and sealing properties.
  • Exhaust filters, also known as oil mist filters, are installed upstream of the outlet inside the oil mist separator of oil-lubricated vacuum pumps. They filter the oil mist that is produced during operation, catching and separating it from the pumped medium before it is expelled through the exhaust. This allows the oil particles to coalesce and be recycled back into the system.

What is the difference between a Busch genuine oil filter and a Busch genuine exhaust filter?

They are two different components of an oil mist separator.

Busch genuine oil filters (1) are used to remove contaminants from the oil that lubricates the compression chamber. They are located outside of the vacuum pump and are connected to the oil separating chamber (2). This filter ensures that the oil can be reused, remains clean, and retains excellent lubrication and sealing properties.

Busch genuine exhaust filters (3) are installed upstream of the outlet inside the oil mist separator. They catch and separate oil mist from the pumped medium before it is expelled through the exhaust. This ensures that only clean air is released into the atmosphere, and all captured oil can be returned to the system.

What is an oil mist separator?

An oil mist separator is responsible for recycling the oil that lubricates the compression chamber and for ensuring that oil particles are not expelled via the exhaust. It consists of an oil separating chamber, an oil filter, and an exhaust filter (also known as oil mist filter).

The pumped medium containing oil particles enters the oil separating chamber (1). Due to gravity, the oil drops to the bottom of the chamber (2), and is pumped into the oil filter through the suction of the compression process (3). Unwanted particles, such as dust and debris, are removed. The pumped medium continues towards the exhaust filter (4) installed upstream of the outlet. It captures and separates oil mist from the pumped medium before it is expelled through the exhaust. The filtered oil is sent back into the compression chamber through an oil return line (5) and an oil supply line (not depicted in the illustration above) which are connected to the oil inlets.

Can I use generic vacuum pump filters in my Busch vacuum pump?

You should only use Busch Genuine Spare Parts in your Busch vacuum pump. Third-party oil filters have not been tested according to our high standards. Only Busch Genuine Spare parts guarantee the optimum performance of your vacuum pump and keep your warranty valid.

How can I identify Busch genuine oil filters for vacuum pumps?

They are individually marked with the Busch logo.

Can I use one type of oil filter for all Busch vacuum pumps?

No, every vacuum pump model has its own corresponding oil filter, and processes with extended oxygen content require specific filters. Find the right oil filter for your vacuum pump in our parts finder.

Does the application play a role in oil filter choice?

Yes, it does. We provide two kinds of oil filters: One for standard and ATEX applications and one for applications with extended oxygen content (mandatory for applications above 21% of oxygen). You can find the oil filters suitable for your vacuum pump in our parts finder. If you are uncertain about which filter to choose for your process, please contact your local Busch expert.

Can I use Busch genuine oil filters in third-party vacuum pumps?

No. We only design, build and test our parts for Busch vacuum pumps.

How do I know when my oil filter needs replacing?

We advise you to change the oil filter when you change the oil inside your vacuum pump. This avoids contaminating the new oil with previously collected particles.

What happens if I do not replace my vacuum pump oil filter regularly?

Changing the filter is a vital component of a regular maintenance schedule. If you do not change your filter regularly, the performance of your vacuum pump will be affected, and energy consumption will be higher.
