First Girls’ Day at Ateliers Busch
Twelve girls and young women aged between 12 and 20 visited Ateliers Busch in Chevenez to find out about the training opportunities available on site. The aim of the “open afternoon” was to awaken the young visitors’ interest in technical professions.
The young women were given an informative tour of the production facility and an exclusive insight into the new high-bay warehouse. Creative vacuum experiments showed them how vacuum technology is used and the diversity of its possible applications.
“We wanted to give the young girls as unbiased a view as possible of our professions and hope that this will lead to applications for apprenticeships,” explains Frédéric Stoven, Head of HR and Communication.
Our aim is to become even more diverse in the future and to further promote equality between men and women. We are convinced that this will boost innovation, creativity and performance in our production.
At the end of the information afternoon, the young women had the opportunity to meet female employees from Ateliers Busch, who told them about their careers and their experience at the vacuum pump manufacturer. The Busch employees encouraged the young visitors to go their own way and not to be held back by gender-specific career stereotypes.

Ateliers Busch has been able to increase the percentage of female employees in production to 12% in recent years. Three women hold management positions. Overall, however, women are still underrepresented in mechanical and plant engineering. Busch Vacuum Solutions wants to change this and is aiming to significantly increase the proportion of women throughout the company. One measure is Girls’ Day, which Busch has been organizing at its main site in Maulburg, Germany, since 2013. The first Girls’ Day at Ateliers Busch also proved to be a great success and will now be held annually.
