Photovoltaic Initiative Meets at Busch

Marion Dammann, councilor of the district of Lörrach, invited the district’s photovoltaics initiative to an event that took place at the Busch Vacuum Solutions premises in Maulburg last Thursday.

The photovoltaic initiative of the district of Lörrach aims to increase the expansion of solar energy. The meeting focused on the construction of solar panels on the roofs of companies in the region. Since Busch had commissioned a large photovoltaic system on the roofs of four halls in 2023, it made sense to hold the initiative meeting on the premises of the Maulburg-based vacuum pump specialist. The plant at Busch extends over an area of 4,800 m2 and consists of 2,330 modules. It allows the company to cover between 16 and 18% of its annual electricity requirements at the headquarters and thus avoid several hundred tons of CO2 per year.

The event was attended by First State Official Ulrich Hoehler, Association Director Dr Sebastian Wilske from the Regional Association of the High Rhine Lake Constance, District Councilor Dr Martin Kistler from the district of Waldshut, the Mayors of the district of Lörrach, representatives of energy supply companies and trades, and employees of Energieagentur Südwest (the Southwest Energy Agency).
Dr Martin Gutmann, Managing Director of Busch Produktion GmbH, spoke about the solar plant on the roofs of the Busch halls in Maulburg and explained its role in the company’s energy strategy: “We see photovoltaics as an important part of our overall energy concept, with which we want to become independent of fossil fuels.”

Apart from its headquarters in Maulburg, the Busch Group has photovoltaic systems on buildings in Austria, China, India, Korea, Romania, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK, as well as at the Pfeiffer headquarters in Asslar and on the site of the Pfeiffer brand DREEBIT near Dresden.

After Dr Gutmann, Nicole Römer from Energieagentur Südwest spoke about photovoltaics for trade and industry as well as about the consultancy services the agency offers.

Stefan Schneider from Lörrach council’s office of climate protection gave a presentation on the progress made in photovoltaic expansion. In 2024, the district of Lörrach achieved an increase of 30.67 MW with a total of 3,339 new systems.

The event offered the participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and network. In addition, the meeting honored the municipalities that achieved the greatest progress in 2024. This is in regard to the installation of solar systems in the categories of balcony-mounted, house roof, commercial roof and open-area systems.

At the end of the event, first state official Ulrich Hoehler promoted the alliance “REGIONAL.KLIMASCHUTZ.MACHEN” (regional climate protection), a community consisting of more than 40 local organizations in the district of Lörrach. They have set themselves the goal of achieving climate neutrality in the region by 2040 and at the same time securing its economic location.
