Formula 1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition for pupils aged 11 to 19. In groups of three to six students, the youngsters design and produce miniature cars measuring 19 cm in length. The racing cars are powered by a gas cartridge and compete against each other on a specially built 20-meter-long plastic racetrack.
Nicola Rowton, Customer Service Representative, and Christine Hewitt, Project Services Manager, represented Busch UK at this exciting event for the fourth time.
Christine commented: “Formula 1 in Schools is a great way to get the next generation excited about STEM subjects and careers. This year’s students were amazing, and it was wonderful to see so much talent.”
Busch UK is involved in STEM programs to inspire school children of all ages to pursue careers in engineering and to raise the profile of Busch in local communities. To this end, Busch UK has a STEM team, led by Nicola.
This year, the event was hosted by Aston University in Birmingham. The regional winners will compete against each other at the national competitions in Rotherham in March, where Nicola will also be a judge. The winners at the national level will then go through to the international finals.
