Dr Karl Busch Appointed Honorary Senator of the Technical University of Munich

Dr Karl Busch has been awarded the title of honorary senator of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for his many years of commitment and his services to the university's future development. At a celebratory event, TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann presented the visionary of vacuum technology with a certificate and praised Dr Karl Busch's many years of service to the university.
Dr Karl Busch studied and received his doctorate in the field of mechanical engineering at what was at the time known as "TH München". Even after that, he continued to work closely together with TUM and is now particularly committed to the future importance of robotics in industry. While the theoretical development work is performed at the university, it is tested and put into practice at Busch and together with companies all over the world.
In recognition of his life's work and his outstanding commitment to the Technical University of Munich, the TUM Senate has now awarded the entrepreneur and inventor with the title of honorary senator.
Dr Karl Busch received his award in the presence of his wife Ayhan, his daughter Ayla and his two sons Sami and Kaya at the TUM Awards Dinner at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich. There, President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann praised the award-winner's entrepreneurial career.
Dr Karl Busch embodies the entrepreneurial spirit for which our TUM also stands in a distinctive and unique way.

What began at the age of 15 with a first pump for garden irrigation has now grown into a global family business with 63 companies in 43 countries. Dr Karl Busch founded the company Busch Vacuum Solutions with his wife Ayhan in 1963. With 3,500 employees worldwide, Busch manufactures vacuum pumps and systems that are used in many sectors of industry. Even today, the management of the company group is completely in the hands of the Busch family – consisting of the company founders Dr Karl and his wife Ayhan Busch, as well as the second generation Ayla, Sami and Kaya Busch.
