Busch Goes Where the Wind Blows
Busch India has supplied fifty R5 rotary vane vacuum pumps for two blade building projects
Wind turbine blades are built to withstand tremendous hurricane-level wind forces. Busch Vacuum Solutions provides that required strength. Its sustainable vacuum technology means Busch is a proven choice for the wind power industry. Busch India has now supplied a total of fifty R5 rotary vane vacuum pumps for two blade building projects.
A global player in the wind energy sector had several turbine building projects and was looking for a reliable vacuum solution. Busch India was invited to build a centralized vacuum system.
It is based on the resin infusion molding technique. A turbine blade is formed of layers of compacted material. They need to be fused together. To start, a massive vacuum bag is placed over the blade frame. Under vacuum, resin seeps into all areas and spaces of the blade. It completely saturates it. For a blade that can reach up to 80 meters long, this is a big task. After the resin is tempered and hardened, the layers are completely bound. The blade is now extremely strong.
The vacuum solution installed for the initial project is a success. A second order has followed in 2021. To date, Busch India has supplied a total of fifty R5 rotary vane vacuum pumps for the two blade building projects. Along with piping, complete control instrumentation with programmable logic controller (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA).
Having a comprehensive vacuum system is vital for the wind turbine manufacturer. To maintain production in the face of increasing global demand for electricity. Expected to increase by 60% come 2050. Busch Vacuum Solutions continues to supply vacuum technology to meet that need. As a trusted partner to those companies creating the sustainable energy of the future.
