On Saturday morning at 8 am, the teams of SC Freibad and Busch Vacuum Solutions played the first game and thus opened the 13th Thommy Cup. They were to meet again in the final match. “When the final whistle blew, the hall was shaking with cheers and chants,” reported Busch employee Huy Hoang Dang, SC Freibad player and tournament organizer. It took a 9-meter shootout to decide the match 5:4 for SC Freibad.
Since 2015, Busch has been the main sponsor of the tournament, the proceeds of which go to different social projects every year. “We are extremely pleased that Busch has been the main sponsor for so many years. Thanks to Busch, not only are our costs covered, but we also receive a generous donation for a good purpose,” explains Huy Hoang Dang.
This time, the money will go to the kindergarten “Unterm Regenbogen” in Endenburg, near the Busch headquarters, to carry out urgent repair work on the children’s playground and the kindergarten itself. Members of the SC Freibad will actively help with this.
Since 2007, the charity event has been organized by the players of the hobby team SC Freibad. Only in 2020 and 2021 it had to be cancelled because of Corona. This year, a total of twelve hobby soccer teams took part in the tournament, including a women’s team for the first time.
Huy Hoang Dang sums up: “The tournament was always fair, every player left the field with a smile, and all the raffle tickets were sold. An all-around successful result for the 13th edition of the Thommy Cup.”
The Thommy Cup is dedicated to a friend of the FC-Freibad players who died in 2006. In his honor and to continue his social commitment, his friends created this charity event.
