The Gift of Giving

Christmas is the season for generosity and goodwill. In this spirit, the employees from Busch Italy have decided that instead of giving presents to their customers, they would make donations on their behalf and give back to the community.

This year, Busch Italy chose to donate Christmas lunch to the social cooperative “Il Sorriso” – in English, “the smile.” Il Sorriso is a non-profit organization that works with people with disabilities. It offers them employment opportunities that may not otherwise be open to them. By creating their own products and offering services such as packaging and quality control, these workers have the opportunity to develop new skills while increasing their sense of autonomy and inclusivity in the community.

To show their support of this worthy cause, Busch Italy personally donated a hearty meal of lasagna, roasted veal and potatoes to the 150 employees. The food was made and vacuum packaged by a daughter company of one of Busch’s OEM clients, which produces vacuum packaging machines. The meal was not just packaged but also cooked under vacuum, using the sous vide technique. This preserves food quality and taste in a way that is challenging to achieve with conventional cooking methods. As the company is located in a different province to Il Sorriso, the vacuum packaging made sure that the meals arrived just as fresh as when they left the production facility.

“With this donation, we will feed the people involved in our organization and other organizations within our network,” explained Maurizio Taverna, president of Il Sorriso. “It will go 100% towards the local community and we thank you for your generosity.”

Spirits were high, and the plates quickly emptied. In the season of goodwill, Busch Italy was pleased to be able to contribute to the festive atmosphere and community spirit.
