The donated R5 vacuum pump is used for resin infusion. The speed of the race car depends, among other things, on its weight. For this reason, the car is made of carbon fiber, a material that is both light and strong. This is covered with a layer of resin that is pressed through the fibers under vacuum, creating a composite.
The students were thrilled with the support from our company. An employee of the Japanese industrial business team handed over the vacuum pump to them at Tokyo City University and also used the opportunity to instruct them on how to operate the R5.
The All-Japan Formula Student Competition has been organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan since 2003. It will take place for the 22nd time in September 2024. The aim of the competition is to promote young talent. By building a racing car, students can unleash their creativity, deepen their technical understanding, develop their practical skills, and experience the challenges of teamwork and project management. This prepares them for their future as engineers in the automotive industry.
Busch sales companies in other countries have also donated R5 vacuum pumps to the racing teams of local technical universities to help them build their race cars for the international Formula Student competition. Around 500 universities from all over the world compete in this racing event.
