The campaign took place in collaboration with the non-profit Fundación Red de Árboles (Tree Network Foundation). The employees of Busch Colombia planted the trees in the Cundinamarca region in the municipality of La Calera, on the outskirts of the capital city, Bogotá.
“The tree planting activity is part of our continuous efforts to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility. Planting trees is an effective way to contribute to the health of the planet and protect natural resources. By working with the Fundación Red de Árboles, we can also raise awareness among our employees about the importance of biodiversity and environmental protection,” explained Carolina Salcedo, General Manager of Busch Colombia.
With 5,868 known tree species, Colombia has a rich tree flora with great biodiversity. However, many species in the South American country are threatened with extinction. Deforestation plays a major role in this: Between 1966 and 1998, 16.8 million hectares of forest were felled in Colombia, an average of 500,000 hectares per year.
The non-profit organization Fundación Red de Árboles has been committed to protecting ecosystems in Colombia through reforestation since 2015. To date, the organization has planted more than 147,000 trees, especially in areas where forests have previously been destroyed by humans or natural disasters.
