Types of side channel blowers

SAMOS side channel blowers are available in single- and two-stage versions. In single-stage side channel blowers, the pumped medium is discharged after one rotation, while two-stage versions convey it to the second stage after one rotation. This leads to higher differential pressures.

The die-cast aluminum or cast-iron construction makes SAMOS very robust. The impeller is made of aluminum alloy and is dynamically balanced. What is a side channel blower?

Side channel blowers can be used to generate vacuum and overpressure. They transfer the kinetic energy of a rotating impeller to the pumped medium and convert it into pressure. The impeller is mounted directly on the shaft of the motor. Together with the specially shaped housing, it forms the side channel. The pumped medium is suctioned in and compressed in the side channel.

In single-stage side channel blowers, the pumped medium is discharged after one rotation. Two-stage versions convey it to the second stage after one rotation, leading to higher differential pressures.

How does a side channel blower work?

The pumped medium is suctioned in and compressed in the side channel. Single-stage side channel blowers discharge the pumped medium after one rotation. Two-stage versions convey it to the second stage after one rotation. Here, it is compressed again and discharged afterwards. This leads to higher differential pressures.

Vacuum generation in side channel blowers explained in three steps

1. Inlet

  • The impeller rotates, creating a flow of air.
  • The pumped medium is drawn in through the inlet.

2. Compression

  • Kinetic energy from the rotating impeller is transferred to the pumped medium, converting it into pressure.
  • Compression is carried out once in single-stage versions and twice in two-stage versions to achieve higher vacuum levels.

3. Outlet

  • Once compressed, the pumped medium is released via the outlet.

What is the difference between a side channel blower and a regenerative blower?

Side channel blowers and regenerative blowers are two names for the same thing. Thus, there are no differences between them.
