Emergency Response in Hospital

When a competitor’s vacuum equipment in a hospital failed suddenly, field service technicians of Busch Australia sprang into action. Through their quick and dedicated work, they restored the fault and enabled the operating theatre to resume operations.

Quick action was required when the vacuum supply in the intensive care unit and operating theater collapsed at the same time at Knox Private Hospital in Wantirna. All surgeries scheduled for the day had to be canceled and service technicians were called urgently.

Even though the vacuum equipment was from a third party and not Busch, it made no difference to the Busch field service technicians. They recognized the importance of the matter and acted immediately. One of the employees even interrupted his vacation to help, while two more technicians provided rental pumps and worked until late in the evening to restore the vacuum supply as quickly as possible. The assignment was not only technically demanding, but also required a high level of commitment and professionalism.

The hospital’s technical manager Mark Grundy expressed his recognition for our team’s dedication: “I would like to extend my appreciation to the technicians who came to our assistance at Knox Private Hospital. It was a long day, but the boys were very professional and understood the demands and urgency of their tasks, and it was a pleasure to work with them.”

Vacuum is essential in operating theaters and intensive care units. It is used for the surgical suctioning of body fluids and tissues. In operating theaters, waste anesthetic gasses are also suctioned out at the anesthesia machine’s surplus valve, preventing them from entering the ambient air and being inhaled by medical staff.

Knox Private Hospital is a 359-bed facility located in Wantirna, a suburb east of Melbourne, in the district of Knox.
