This year marked a historic milestone as over 40,000 individuals, including our thirteen colleagues, laced up their running shoes. Established in 1978, this charity event unfolded amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Royal Botanic Gardens, traversing the Yarra River, circling Albert Park Lake, and passing iconic landmarks like Flinders Street Station.
The marathon offered options for participants of all ages, including a full marathon, a half marathon, and shorter distances. The entry fees for our colleagues were covered by Busch Australia. A portion of these entry fees went to support the esteemed Peter MacCallum Cancer Center in Melbourne – a globally recognized oncology research institute, treatment center, and training hub.
Busch Australia also made a direct donation of 1,000 Australian dollars (about 600 Euro). Vivian Morgan, Community and Event Fundraising Manager of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, expressed her gratitude, stating, “On behalf of our researchers, clinical stuff, patients and the Foundation, we extend our heartfelt thanks to you and your donors for the unwavering dedication, generosity, and support. Every dollar raised through your efforts contributes to our mission of advancing innovative research, enhancing treatment options, and providing compassionate care to those affected by cancer.”
The collective efforts yielded an impressive result, as a total of 186,000 Australian dollars was raised for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center during this year’s Melbourne Marathon.
