Cycling for the Climate

Sami and Kaya Busch, along with 30 employees from Busch Vacuum Solutions, took part in this year’s STADTRADELN (city cycling) in Maulburg. From July 01 to 21, they cycled 11,783 kilometers and saved 1.908 tons of CO2 by using a bicycle instead of a car to get to work, for exercise, or on vacation. This has resulted in the company taking second place in the community.

The aim of the campaign was to promote cycling, take action against climate change, and further enhance the quality of life in Maulburg.

Every year, more and more municipalities in Germany participate in the initiative, which has been taking place since 2008. In 2023, there were 2,748 communities nationwide with 916,471 cyclists, who cycled a total of 189,213,309 km. This avoided CO2 emissions of 30,653 tons.

Each kilometer cycled during the period was noted by the participants in an online logbook, or tracked directly via the STADTRADELN app.

Busch offers its employees the option of leasing a “JobRad” (job bike) through the company, which they can use both for their commute and in their leisure time.

STADTRADELN is an initiative of the Climate Alliance, a network of cities, communities and districts that have committed themselves to protecting the climate. It has almost 2,000 members from more than 25 European countries who are committed to reducing greenhouse gases at a local level.
